Fast Electric News - Regular racing today. Below are the results for the SuperVee Early Birds, SuperVee Stock, and SuperVee Modified.

Here is the Race Report from Jeff Shipley:

Today, SV racing entered a new era. Aquacraft has released a new updated SuperVee with an all new motor and speed control. Today, Paul Mainville showed up with the new boat to race in stock class and Jeff Shipley has installed the new motor in his boat also for stock class. Is the new motor faster, rendering all of the old boats obsolete? Stay tuned!

Let's go racing!

Jerry Morton, Bob Rahberg and Ron Desmond came to race Early Birds today. Welcome back Ron! The day belonged to Rocket Man as Ron swept all three rounds for a perfect day. Bob put in three good runs, scoring two 2nds and a 3rd while Jerry had a few problems but finished a strong 2nd in round 2.

Five racers were entered in SV stock today. The man with the plan was Bob Meinhardt and he was not worried about any new motors. After a round one DNF he came back strong, scoring two wins with his 'obsolete' SV. Jeff Shipley managed two 2nds and a 3rd running the new motor in his boat and Paul Mainville took the round one win with his brand new SV27R.

With seven boats entered, SV modified was wild today with lots of spectacular crashes! Terry Cowger drove smart and stayed out of trouble to claim a pair of wins and a 2nd. Jeff Mainville snagged the round two win and Carl Slater drove to a solid round one 2nd place finish before trouble set in.

Thanks Terry Sr and Rick Workman for running a smooth show today and thanks for the recovery boat Rick.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Regards,
Jeff Shipley

Thanks for the commentary Jeff.

Here is the latest from the WAVE BLASTERS of FLORIDA

FE1

Club News - A good 4th of July showing with lots of decorations by the scale group. (See the Scale section below and all the photos in the Scale Photo Gallery.) A bit humid and light rain but it certainly didn't dampen our spirits. Hope everybody had a safe, sane and happy 4th.

Reminder - The new Wave Blasters logo decals are now available. They are available in three sizes -- 4 in - 1.75 in - 1 in. Every member is to receive 2 of each so if you haven't received yours, contact Mackey (for Scale), Terry (for FE) or Bud Johansen.

Fast Electric News - Regular racing today and the first race of the Fall race season. Below are the results for the SuperVee Early Birds, SuperVee Stock, and SuperVee Modified. LSH (Limited Sport Hydro) did not run today.

Here is the Race Report from Jeff Shipley:

Happy Independence Day racers! Today is the start of the new points series so let's light the fuse and go racing boys!

Jerry Morton and Bob Rahberg were the only Early Birds doing battle today. Jerry spun the driveshaft at the start of heat 1 allowing Bob to claim the win. Heats 2 and 3 were all about Jammin Jerry as he overpowered Bob for a pair of wins.

SV Stock saw Phil Hale grab the lead in heat 1 while Bob Meinhardt drove to a solid 2nd. After they both cut a buoy, Jeff Shipley and Paul Mainville slid in 3rd and 4th. Rick Workman claimed the heat 2 win with Phil in 2nd and Jeff S. in 3rd after Paul and Bob crashed out. Bob put the hammer down to claim the heat 3 win with Phil, Rick and JS rounding out the finishers.

SV Mod was not kind to Terry Cowger or Phil Hale! They both scored a perfect 3 DNF's and after a heat 3 collision, both suffered considerable hull damage. In fact, Phil's boat was in danger of sinking, so the race was stopped so he could recover it! Jeff Mainville was the man to beat as he claimed two heat wins and a 3rd. Carl Slater, after a heat 1 DNF, came back to score two solid 2nd place finishes. Rick Workman took one of each, a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd.

Thanks Terry Sr. and Rick for race direction today and of course thanks to Rick for the recovery boat.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Regards,
Jeff Shipley

Thanks for the commentary Jeff.

Here is the latest from the WAVE BLASTERS of FLORIDA

Club News - Good showing at the pond today. Very warm and humid but that is Florida this time of year.

We do miss our 'snow bird' members this time of year so please at least keep in touch. We don't talk too bad about you when you are gone. Honest! :o))

A great showing of 'works-in-progress' by the scale guys today. Be sure and check out the Scale/Sail News below and see the Scale Photo Gallery for all the info.

The new Wave Blasters logo decals are now available. They are available in three sizes -- 4 in - 1.75 in - 1 in. Every member is to receive 2 of each so if you haven't received yours, contact Mackey (for Scale), Terry (for FE) or Bud Johansen.

Fast Electric News - Regular racing today and the last race of the Spring race season. Below are the results for the SuperVee Early Birds, SuperVee Stock, and SuperVee Modified. LSH (Limited Sport Hydro) did not run today.

Here is the Race Report from Jeff Shipley:

After 6 months of hard racing, it has come down to this, the last race of the Fall points series. Many of final positions will be decided today. Let's go racing boys!

Jerry Morton was the only Early Bird brave enough to race today but he put his boat in the water and ran all 3 heats and was credited with 3 wins.

SV Stock heat #1 was the battle of the yellow boats as Phil Hale and Paul Mainville ran nose to tail. But, first Phil and then Paul, cut a bouy going a lap down and handing the lead to Jeff Mainville. Then, Bob Meinhardt crashed out and Phil and Paul found themselves in a battle for 2nd after all. Jeff scored the win and after running their extra lap Phil and Paul drove to 2nd and 3rd. Phil took charge in heat #2 but Bob drove hard finishing a close 2nd with Paul rounding out the top 3. Phil grabbed the lead in heat #3 but Bob powered past on the back straight and pulled away. Phil hung on to 2nd with Paul finishing 3rd.

Terry Cowger was crowded out at the start of SV mod heat #1 and crashed before the starting line. Phil Hale ended up getting the hole shot and powered into the lead chased by a hard charging Carl Slater. Carl kept the hammer down to finish 2nd with Jeff Mainville bringing her home in 3rd. Terry grabbed the heat #2 lead. Jeff Mainville drove a good race to finish 2nd with Jeff Shipley taking the 3rd place spot. Cowger again took the lead of heat #3. Phil drove a fast race but had to settle for a 2nd place finish while Jeff M cruised in 3rd.

The overall finishing positions for the day can be viewed on this page and the final points standings for the series can be found on the Links page.

Congratulations to all class winners and thanks to everyone for a fun, exciting race series. Our next race and the start of the next series is July 4. Be there or be square!

Thanks Terry Sr. and Rick Workman for running a smooth program and as always, thanks Rick for the recovery boat.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Jeff Shipley

Here is the latest from the WAVE BLASTERS of FLORIDA

Club News - Great day weather-wise and a great showing early on in the day. Lots of spectators and new members as well. Welcome to Bill Collins, Gerry Groothouse, Buddy Berrisford and Caleb Gillen who have recently joined the Wave Blasters. We are now 45 members strong and growing every week.

Fast Electric News - Regular racing today. Below are the results for the SuperVee Stock, SuperVee Modified, and LSH (Limited Sport Hydro). SuperVee Early Bird did not run today.

Here is the Race Report from Jeff Shipley:

Today was a light turn out of racers again with 4 boats running SV Stock, 5 in SV Modified and only 2 braving LSH. Where are the Early Birds? Anyway we came to race and here is how it went down.

In SV Stock heat 1, Rick Workman got a 3rd place start but drove hard and, after a crash by Jeff Mainville and a spinout by Bob Meinhardt, assumed the lead. Paul Mainville drove to a 2nd place finish while Bob M. recovered to finish 3rd. Rick took an easy win in heat 2 after both Bob and Paul crashed out. Jeff M. was having problems and did not start this heat. Bob got the hole shot in heat 3 and lead Rick and Paul around for the entire race, finishing in that order. Jeff M's problems prevented him from starting this heat.

Ken Haines grabbed the lead in SV Mod heat 1 chased hard by Rick Workman. Both Jeff Shipley and Carl Slater crashed out, allowing Ken and Rick an easy 1-2 finish. Jeff Mainville was unable to make the start. Again Ken nailed the hole shot to lead Jeff S. and Rick around in SV Mod heat 2. Unfortunately both Jeff M. and Carl crashed out of the race. Jeff S. was too quick on the trigger at the start of heat 3 and jumped the start effectively handing the lead to Ken. Ship kept the hammer down, knowing that he had to run an extra lap. Rick was hot in Ken's wake and after Jeff M. flipped, Ship was able to finish 3rd.

LSH heat 1 was a two hydro shootout as TJ Cowger lead Ken Haines. The boats were equal in speed so TJ was unable to pull away from Ken and Ken could not gain on TJ. Ken grabbed the heat 2 lead with TJ in his roost. TJ misjudged the entrance to turn 3 spearing the buoy ending his race. Fortunately damage was minimal. In LSH heat 3, Ken decided to run his N Hydro against TJ's LSH. 2S lipos were no match for 4S power and TJ walked away with the win.

As always, a big THANKS to Rick Workman for storing, transporting and operating the recovery boat.

Tough luck award of the day goes to Jeff Mainville who had problems and bad luck all day but never gave up.

That’s my story and I'm sticking to it.

Regards,
Jeff Shipley

Thanks Jeff. Great commentary.

WB Member Buddy Berrisford forwarded this e-mail to all WB members. Really interesting web site to visit.

Wave Blasters, All,

This is from a friend of mine who visited with me at the pond this past Sunday. He is still involved with container shipping and therefore enjoyed seeing some of the boats that we have. He forward this information and I thought that some of our members would be interested in looking it over. I also thought it would be nice if they could bring some of their models over to our pond some Sunday.

Buddy

Buddy, that training facility in France at Grenoble I told you about has its own website www.portrevel.com. You may want to go on it for it has some neat videos, pictures of their models etc. etc. NOTE: Click on the website below and click on English, Download, Videos. Fanatastic experience.

Thanks for having me join you today. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to repeat when its convenient as I want to get some photos for Captain Berrisford's Fan Club!!!!!!

Here is the latest from the WAVE BLASTERS of FLORIDA

Fast Electric News - Regular racing today. Below are the results for the SuperVee Stock and SuperVee Modified. LSH (Limited Sport Hydro), SuperVee Early Bird and P-Offshore did not run today.

Here is the Race Report from Jeff Shipley:

There was a light turnout of FE racers today with 5 boats entered in SV Stock and 4 boats competing in SV Modified. The racing was very competitive and exiting none the less as valuable points were on the line with the points series at the half way point.

Phil 'The Ice Man' Hale put the hammer down in SV stock heat 1 for 6 fast laps to claim the victory. In heat 2 'The Ice Man' was hard on the throttle again powering his way to the front for his second heat win. Bob Meinhardt was tired of this, so he drove a smooth fast race to claim the heat 3 win.

How did Terry Sr. do today? He doesn't want to talk about it. :o((

Jeff Shipley nailed a lane 1 hole shot to lead from flag to flag in SV modified heat 1 despite relentless pressure from a hard charging Rick Workman. Ship jumped the start of heat 2 so Jeff Mainville took the lead and never looked back. Heat 3 was the Jeff and Jeff show. Mainville took the lead at the start but Shipley was in hot pursuit. It was close down to the last lap, but Jeff Mainville held a tight line and earned the win.

TJ Cowger took the opportunity to test and tune between heats today, allowing the racers running both heats time to cool down and get ready for their next heat. He ran the 'Water Bug' rigger and the 'Whip A__' hydro.

Thanks Jeff. Great commentary.

Rumor has it that all the Snow Birds are coming down and bringing the cold with them. (JOKE! Aaargh!) Glad to have you all back here in spite of the chill. I was reminded that 40s and 50s were not COLD. You need to go back up north to be reminded about cold. How soon we forget. :o))

It was a great event. There were 389 boats and 139 racers over the 3 day event. We met a lot of District 3 racers and certainly plugged our club at any opportunity. There were numerous jaws dropping as we ran these FE boats in front of many of the fuel racers for the first time. ME Time video company filmed the entire event and had a live internet feed during the whole race. There were plenty of interviews given by our club, as they interviewed all the heat winners. The race will be able to be viewed in the archives section starting March 1st. This is very good publicity for our sport. They charge only $25 per year for a premium membership. For a limited time the regular membership is free. Hopefully many in our club will consider joining this new service.

It was a beautiful day (finally) at the pond today. Temperature in the low 70s, low humidity, beautiful blue skies with a very light breeze. After the more than chilly Sundays that we have had for the past month or so, this was delightful. This is what we all came to Florida for. Just had to wait a bit this year.

Some of the younger spectators got a chance to pilot the boats so they were very excited.

Below are a few photos of the activities today. Thanks again to Capt. Bill and Mackey Rodgers for putting the docks together for the club. Great job!

-- HAPPY HOLIDAYS --

Club News - Beautiful but chilly morning at the pond today. Only 52 degrees and breezy. Long pants, jackets and gloves. WOW! But - NO WHITE STUFF! Up north is really getting hit this weekend.

JUST A REMINDER
TECH TIP - Bud ran a load test on the 2,200mAh, 3S, 8C LiPo batteries we have been using in the Futaba and Spektrum radio transmitters. The Futaba 3 channel radio transmitters, for example, only draw about 0.06 Ah (60 mAh) so with a 11.1 v., 2,200 mAh battery, you can "theoretically" expect up to 36 hours of operating time. No need to charge after every use but don't leave it on forever either. A couple more reports of running LiPos too long and dropping the per cell charge below 3v. Very hard to recover a LiPo when it hits that low of a voltage. Frequent recycling of a LiPo takes it toll on the battery life as well. Wait until the 3S LiPo (fully charged 12.6v.) drops to approximately 11.1v. before you charge but NEVER let it go below 9.9v (3.3v per cell).

Scale/Sail News - The crowd was small and the session was short today. Just too cold to really enjoy the boating. While most of us were in winter clothes, two folks did show up in shorts, short sleeves and no coats. Guess some of us just haven't been in Florida long enough. Guess what though. It did almost hit 70 degrees before the day was up.

With the holiday season brings the decorated boats. George Buchmann had all of his boats decorated but the Bristol Bay was the best. Congrats George on the Christmas tree and all the lights. Looks great!

Scale/Sail News - Lots of tech chatter today as Kris tried to again burn up two more motors on the Rybo Runner prototype. Running dual outboards and a 4,500 mah, 25C, 3S LiPo pack, you could have fried eggs on the battery pack and the motors. It had to be pulling close to 100 amps. Surprised the ESC didn't blow. Can't wait until the next chapter. Really something new every week. (Sorry Kris but!) :o))

Carl Slater and Ron Desmond have been busy modifying Ron's Atlantic Tug. Really looks great with the new crane system and dual water guns. Amazing the mods that can be made to a standard RTR vessel. Really creative - Congrats Carl and Ron!

Scale/Sail News - GB Robbins contacted the Fort Pierce, Florida, Coast Guard Station to see if they had a 47 ft. Motor Life Boat stationed there. GB's interest was to get some first hand information, with pictures and details, for the 1/10th scale MLB that he is building. The Operations Petty Officer informed GB that they did have a 47 ft. MLB and he invited them to visit and requested that they bring a couple of model boats for display.

Capt. Bill, Mackey Rodgers and GB visited the station on Tuesday, November 17th. Upon being cleared (Security), they met with the Operations Petty Officer. Upon seeing the models that GB & Capt. Bill has brought, he started calling other officers which also showed up on the docks. Capt Bill put on a demo of his CG boat with all the bells and whistles so lots of "oohs & ahs". Then a great tour of the MLB stationed there. The other CG boats stationed there are very impressive as well as the crew.

Overall a great trip. We can be glad we have the Coast Guard on duty and ready for any emergency. The visit was very impressive.

Kris brought his "works-in-progress" Miller 70. Coming along very nicely. Kris is doing a great job on the teak and everything on the craft. Can't hardly wait to see it finished Kris.

Think it must have been fleet day for the Wave Blasters Tug Fleet. Seems like everybody showed up. (Ooops! Bud's Target Towing Tug is missing.) :o))

Here is the latest from the WAVE BLASTERS of FLORIDA

Club News - 2010 TRAIN & R/C EXPO, STUART, FL - The Wave Blasters will exhibit at the Train & R/C Expo at the Martin County Fair Grounds, Stuart, Florida on Saturday, January 16th from 9 AM to 3 PM. We will have eight tables, six for display and two for WB members selling boats or accessories. Many members have expressed an interest in not only exhibiting their boats but selling some items as well so we want to try it this year. Those who sell something during the show will be asked to contribute to the "Dealer Table" additional fee but it should be minimal.

We will distribute a sign up sheet for those who want to put boats on display. We have a lot of interest so will try to make sure we don't get a lot of duplication. In additional to the display table in the front of the booth, we will also have some tables in the rear of the booth that we need to provide. We can place additional items on those tables without additional fees.

The sponsors have also asked if we wanted to conduct any "How To" work shop sessions at the Expo. These should be 15-30 min. in length and obviously focused on RC model boating. Anybody interested in giving a presentation please contact Bud Johansen (WaveBlasters@comcast.net). Think it would be great if we could get a couple sessions on the schedule for the day.

Scale/Sail News - Mackey Rodgers showed up with his latest - A 1907 Steam Launch complete with a dual piston steam engine. He also includes a little bonus power by adding an electric motor in-line with the steam engines in case the steam fails. If you have ever run steam in an RC boat, you would really appreciate being able to recover your craft without waiting hours for the breeze to blow it ashore. Leave it to Mackey to be a real innovator.

FE1FE1

Mackey Rodgers showed up with another neat item, a 2 cylinder steam engine complete with fittings and all. Really a beautiful piece of work. Mackey is now looking for a vessel to put it in. Kris Jagdeo also had a beautiful model of a fishing fighting chair complete in every detail from the tilting foot rest to the removable back. Only problem is that it would take an 8' to 10' RC model to keep in scale. Kris has built some large boats but not that size; yet!
